NOTES
This song is about the political distribution of space and time, of speaking parts and silence. It is about the violence and exclusion that supports our democratic consumer paradise. The holiday, the resort, the buffet: all depend on the activity of invisible and unheard people, a background of labour and toil. When the marginalized and oppressed speak, can power hear them? And, if so, what does power hear? Inarticulate cries? The noise of children and animals? Consensus tells us that people are oppressed when they are perceived as inferior, but what if the reverse is also the case? People are perceived as inferior, as only capable of noise, when they are already oppressed. This holds for children as for prisoners, for colonized peoples as for workers, domestic and industrial. What happens when these invisible people, these extra people, these supposedly silent ones, no longer remain silent? What happens when they claim their voice in the noise and the noise in their voice? What happens when the animals escape from their cages and the disobedient children play with the law as they once played with their toys?
lyrics
the guests are getting restless. and the help is starting up. again. again. patience is wearing thin. IT’S ALL OVER the children raise their voice. they only only hear your noise. children. put away your toys. they only only hear your noise. party time is ending. HOLIDAY IS OVER the children raise their voice. they only only hear your noise. children. put away your toys. they only only hear your noise. happy days are here again. all it takes is another prison. happy days are here to stay. all it takes is another prison. they only hear… they only hear…
